The Met Gala, a ball to benefit Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City, was held last night. Every year, the rich and famous got decked out for that year’s theme and enjoy a night of hobnobbing with other rich and famous people. (At $15,000 a plate, you can imagine the caliber of stars to attend.)
This year’s theme was “Charles James: Beyond Fashion.” Attendees were encouraged to wear white tie with decorations to celebrate the very formal designs of Charles James. “Decorations” here means military sashes and the like, but these are fashion people, so each attendee interpreted the dress code in his or her own way. (See here and here for a few of the most notable ensembles.)
Since decorations (military and otherwise) are so important to the promotional industry, I thought I’d translate the fashion looks to promotional trends. Here’s how to sell The Met Gala trends to your clients.
Jade
The blue-green shade of jade is a beautiful and often underused color choice. Liu Wen sported a gown in jade. For your purposes, you could try a jade award like this one to add a little color to your recognition programs.
Pink Champagne
Great for breast cancer awareness or Mother’s Day campaigns, this champagne pink pearl necklace fits in with dresses worn by Karen Elson and other Met Gala attendees.
Feather Details
Naomi Watts had feather-like details on her dress. Kristen Stewart had literal feathers on hers. Try these feather masks to embrace the trend this spring and summer. (We’re having trouble thinking of a promotion idea for these, but they are just so fun.)
